Hours: Various: Days and evenings/sleep overs, including additional for holiday/sickness cover
Wage: Good rates of pay (to be discussed at interview)
Female tetraplegic with busy life requires fit, healthy personal assistants, prepared to learn and understand the Social Model of Disability, and what independent living means. I am reasonably mobile, articulate and motivated and will provide training.
Personal Care: all aspects of personal care, continence care, grooming.
Housework: all aspects, including minimum handwashing & pegging washing out. Elementary home maintenance. Sweeping paths and maintaining access.
Wheelchair maintenance; cleaning wheelchair, pumping up tyres and cushion.
Driving & car maintenance: driver required occasionally; fill up with petrol; fill windscreen wiper bottle with water; clean inside and outside of car etc, help me in and out of car; put wheelchair in back.
Shopping; help around supermarkets and in town shops; help in and out of car; putting shopping away, and any other errands.
Support at work: from making a cup of tea, helping me in and out of car, to assisting on training sessions ie. writing on flip chart; unjam the photocopier.
Physiotherapy: assistance in standing frame. Routine stretching exercises. Assistance with dressing and undressing at hydrotherapy pool + exercises in the water. Assistance at country parks etc
Support at Social occasions: be able to stay in the background and give support as required.
Pets: no pets at present but this might change in the future ie; helping to walk dog
Miscellaneous: Any other assistance I require to enable me to live the life I want to lead.
Extra cover: during holidays/sickness/emergencies.
Female tetraplegic with high level of physical dependency and a busy life, requiring personal assistant cover, to support my needs and chosen lifestyle.
You will be required to work full days, for example: 8am-5pm and late evenings, for example: 11.30pm + sleepovers
ESSENTIAL: Confidentiality; communication; punctuality; honesty; respect; a genuine belief in equality.
Commitment – this is not a 9-5 office job and my level of physical dependency, and my lifestyle require a greater commitment.
Flexibility – work time covers day, evenings, weekends, Bank Holidays, + sleepovers, and the routine programme will be changed at times. Sometimes you will be busy; sometimes very quiet. The job is multitasked and requires an ability to take instruction and work with patience, respect and humour. EXTRA COVER will be asked for holidays/sick cover for myself and other PA’s.
Ability to blend in – no uniform required and there will be different situations at different times. Some will require you to sit in the background until required, some will require you to be in the foreground.
Presentation – clean, tidy with good hygiene and conscious of infection control. Willingness to learn and adapt. Treat me, my home, friends and family with courtesy and respect.
Driver – with British licence(for insurance cover) and able to drive my car (automatic) ie; for long journey or if I am unable to drive.
Smoking: able to work in a permanent non-smoking environment
Diverse: able to deal with a diversity of people, animals and situations in a non-discriminatory and non-patronising way.
